A potential new venue...
16/03/09
A meeting was held in Barton Village Hall. The committee and the majority of members turned up to see the hall itself. At the outset of the meeting the chairman said that poor heating in the Shillington Hall had been a source of concern for many years. The changes introduced at the end of last year do not seem to have improved the heating and yet the new heaters flood the hall with a red light which is so bright as to be unacceptable for projecting images. The Village Hall Committee have said they will not be doing anything to improve this situation.
Dave Cooper recounted that earlier last year he, Mike Gower and Alan Whitcroft had carried out a survey of local alternatives to the Shillington Hall. Some venues of other Clubs were checked out on the internet and were found to be very expensive. They had short-listed the Church Hall at Barton and the Village Hall there. The former was a comparatively new building and the accommodation was very attractive. However, there were some windows high up which could not be blacked out - events involving projection would need to be excluded from the early and late, lighter days of the season. Also, it was rather more expensive. The Committee had been to see the Village Hall and decided it would suit us well and arranged that this EGM be held here so members could see for themselves.
The building includes a large hall, which may be suitable for our exhibition, and two smaller ones - the Committee room and the ‘Back’ room. We were in the committee room. (after the meeting members went next door. The general impression was that the slightly larger ‘back’ room would suit us better).
The members were asked if they prefer the venue to the current hall and the consensus was that all would prefer to move to the new venue. A formal vote for this motion will be tabled at the AGM.
